I5 at F22
I had one of the best Christmas’s I could think of last year. I woke up at 4AM, threw my bag into the trunk of my car and started my journey. I was driving north, up through the heart of California, to my sister’s house an hour north of Sacramento.
Generally this trip clocks in at seven hours, almost to the minute. This time, however, I decided to make a project out of it. Instead of driving as fast as I could safely go to get through the drudgery of the never ending freeway (Interstate 5), I decided to document that oft disregarded stretch of freeway.
I5 at F22.
I wanted the images to echo the sense of scale that Interstate 5 embodies. Stretching for 1,380 miles (only counting the US portions), the freeway is truly massive. Shooting at F22 gives the image as much depth as one could feasibly produce and mirrors the feeling you get being apart of a national artery. Prints of these images are available from inPRNT.
